What the notice means

The notice doesn’t name an ad, a landing page or the part of the policy that was breached. Google’s rule is that the promoted product or service needs to be the same for everyone (opens in a new tab), and its examples include a pop-up that blocks access to the majority of your website (opens in a new tab).

In the Circumventing Systems cases we handle, genuine businesses are usually caught by their own set-up rather than anything deliberate: a security setting that challenges Google’s crawler, an ad link that redirects, a pop-up that hides the page, or verification details that don’t match.

Why Google treats it as egregious

Google says accounts are suspended upon detection and without prior warning (opens in a new tab). It also says accounts are only reinstated in compelling circumstances (opens in a new tab), such as in the case of a mistake (opens in a new tab).

Opening another account doesn’t help either. Google lists attempting to use the Google Ads system again by creating new accounts to re-enter the system (opens in a new tab) as a violation of this same policy.

Why rushed appeals make it worse

A quick “we did nothing wrong” gives the reviewer nothing to check, and the cause is still there. Google warns that if you file too many appeals for the same account suspension (opens in a new tab), they may not be processed.

Some advertisers must complete advertiser verification successfully to appeal their account suspension (opens in a new tab). And providing false or fraudulent information as part of Google’s advertiser verification programs (opens in a new tab) is itself a breach of this policy, so every detail has to be true and consistent.

Circumventing Systems suspension questions

Why was there no warning before the suspension?

Circumventing Systems is treated as egregious, so Google says accounts are suspended upon detection and without prior warning (opens in a new tab). The 7-day warning people expect belongs to other policies, such as evasive ad content.

Can a genuine website be suspended for cloaking?

Yes. Google’s own examples include a pop-up that blocks access to the majority of your website (opens in a new tab), and in our experience security settings that challenge Google’s crawler and ad links that redirect are common causes on legitimate sites. If I pass advertiser verification, is the suspension lifted?

No. Google says your account will remain suspended until your appeal is granted (opens in a new tab). Verification can open the way to an appeal, but it doesn’t replace one. Verification help is available as an optional add-on.

How many appeals should I send?

One at a time, and only once the cause is fixed. Google says that if you file too many appeals for the same account suspension (opens in a new tab), they may not be processed. Our service includes up to 3 appeals, sent one at a time.

Do I have to give you my Google Ads password?

No. We never ask for sign-in details. We send a link request from our agency (manager) account using your Google Ads customer ID. Google asks you to confirm it, the link only exists once you accept, and you can remove it at any time. Read how we help without your password.

How long does it take?

Usually about 5 days from our first call to your appeal being submitted, or about 3 if your documents and website changes are already in place. Then the timing is Google’s. In your account, Google says: “The review usually takes 1-3 business days, but may take longer.” Nobody can speed up Google’s review.
